an after thought

This jewellery has no fixed form, but is expandable with own jewellery, like chains, stone or pearl necklaces, pendants, rings or any other kind of beloved objects. This makes it very playful and open for everybodies own ideas.

Today i was forwarded this link from anda. Thanks lady. I love it when the people around me send me links to help inspire me.

"The fixation of the pieces of jewellery and other objects of peronal value I have collected by way of the rather unconventional technique of silicone casting, is a snap-shot of my time and the culture I am part of, the culture of an often unreflected consumers’ society, in which objects become easily disposable. With jewellery not the material but the ideal value should come to the fore, so that the personality of everyone can get expressed, shaped and reflected. The idea of democratic jewellery and of sharing my messages and my collected and unique objects is important for me. That´s also a reason why I choose the silicone casting method. There is a strong contrast between the material of non-precious silicone, the cast precious jewellery pieces and a very personal content. By changing the original materiality of the used objects into silicone or resin, a new harmony of material, colour is created, a novel entity"

Made me think yet again about process and other methods of making art wearable. My next step i think will be how to exhibit my work a collaborative installation. I think that that's what i've always wanted to do.... just havent figured out how to do it.

EINTR8 Jewellery is about confrontation with value terms, about the unconditional beauty of colours, shapes, materials and about decorative equality. denise julia reytan's jewellery is made of materials which fascinates her, of objects from everyday life, consumption and the environment, which represents her, herculture and the time she is living in. EINTR8 Jewellery is combining and new interpretating modern and traditional characteristics, shape languages, materials, techniques, designs and statements in the world today.

working towards spring

so now that i've sourced out sam as my new design partner staying creative has been easier. It's hard to stay creative on your own when there's no one to bounce things off. Working with textiles and textures is something that i haven't been able to explore. It's one of the focusses of the new line.

zaki ibrahim

love it.

zaki ibrahim

check her out at. www.zakiibrahim.com

I'm honored to have had my work on Zaki Ibrahim at Juno fest and her Flare photo shoot. Funny how small the Toronto artist world is. Thanks to Seema for making it happen. There's something rewarding about having your art on another artist. Especially when that artist really appreciates your work. I'm glad that we'll be working together collaboratively on future projects. work it out girl you look amazing.

"Zaki Ibrahim's music is captivating and vibrant, thick with poetics and steeped in a delicious mixture of earnest emotion and social commentary. Her path continues to layer new experiences that impact her music, culminating in her most recent project, Eclectica (Episodes in Purple). Ibrahim's road has been paved with creative encounters from a childhood steeped in musical influences to performing at Capetown's historic Armchair Theatre, then touring Canada with South Africa's Tumi and the Volume, The Roots, Bedouin Soundclash, and Erykah Badu to collaborating with famed DJs King Britt and Ron Trent."

fans...tastic

i didn't think that moving into mass production would be as fun as it actually is. My ultimate goal is to move into accessories and cater to a broader market. (smart thinking clemente) Fans is one of my secret ... and now not so secret... projects. This will be one of the new accessories we will release for Summer 2010. I stumbled upon some amazing ones that i've been using as inspiration for the line. In my research i've also learned a lot about the language of the fan:

In the past, hand fans were used not only as cooling instruments, but also as convenient communication devices, mainly for transmitting more or less furtive love messages. A language of the fan, which is today completely forgotten, was widely used.

Resting the fan on her lips: "I don’t trust you"

Fanning herself with her left hand:

"Don’t flirt with that woman

Running her fingers through the fan’s ribs:

"I want to talk to you"

Slowly fanning herself :

"Don’t waste your time, I don’t care about you"

Quickly fanning herself:

"I love you so much"

Moving her hair away from her forehead:

"Don’t forget me"

Passing the fan from hand to hand:

"I see that you are looking at another woman"

Hitting her hand’s palm:

"Love me"

Carrying the fan closed and hanging from her left hand:

"I’m engaged"

Carrying the fan closed and hanging from her right hand:

"I want to be engaged"

Quickly and impetuously closing the fan:

"I’m jealous"

Dropping the fan:

"I belong to you"

Resting the fan on her heart:

"My love for you is breaking my heart"

Half-opening the fan over her face:

"We are being watched"

Hitting any object:

"I’m impatient"

Hiding the sunlight:

"You’re ugly"

i can't move fast enough

today i feel like the world is passing me by. Maybe i'm just jealous. i wish i could just get there. I think that its fantastic and i know that deep down inside i've been wanting to do this exact thing.

but i'm just having a hard time getting there...... really.
